President Mahama unveils vision for Mationwide Expressway Network

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans for the development of a nationwide expressway network aimed at improving connectivity, facilitating the movement of people and goods, and accelerating economic development across Ghana.
The President said the initiative would build on the foundation laid by Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who recognised the importance of modern transport infrastructure to national development.

President Mahama made the remarks on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Kwaso near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, during the official handover of the cleared Right-of-Way for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
He described the Accra-Kumasi Expressway as a key component of the government’s broader vision to establish modern expressway corridors linking various parts of the country.
President Mahama said the government intends to extend the expressway network beyond the Accra-Kumasi corridor to northern Ghana, while also developing major east-west connections to improve movement across the country.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly the Engineers Regiment, to participate in the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

He said the involvement of the Engineers Regiment would contribute to the successful delivery of the project while strengthening the capacity of the country’s engineering institutions.
