The Board of Trustees of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has completed its 2026 Project Monitoring Exercise in the southern zone, visiting 129 beneficiary institutions across the Volta, Eastern, Central, Western and Greater Accra Regions.

Led by the Board Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, the exercise took the Trustees directly to school compounds, dormitories, lecture halls and district education offices to assess projects on the ground rather than relying solely on reports and documentation.

According to the Chairman, the purpose of the exercise was to establish “exactly what has been built, what remains unbuilt, and why,” while identifying challenges affecting the timely completion and delivery of GETFund-supported projects.

The monitoring exercise recorded several completed projects, including the Vice Chancellor’s bungalow at Ho Technical University and the E-Block facilities at Adaklu Gbekor Senior High School, which the Trustees described as notable achievements.

The team, however, also encountered challenges, including an abandoned and deteriorating project at Mawuko Senior High School, schools awaiting absorption into the public education system, and delays in the release of funds. The Trustees identified delays in disbursement as one of the major obstacles affecting the timely completion of projects.

Beyond identifying challenges, the Board issued site-level directives and commitments to address some of the concerns. These include an integrity assessment of the abandoned project at Mawuko SHS, efforts to fast-track the absorption of unabsorbed schools, and engagement with relevant financial authorities to help resolve stalled disbursements.

Rev. Cyril Gershon Fayose, a member of the Board, underscored the urgency of completing education infrastructure projects, stressing that “a project delayed is a future deferred.”

The Board of Trustees says GETFund remains committed to ensuring that every cedi invested in educational infrastructure delivers tangible value to students, teachers and communities by providing functional classrooms, dormitories and other essential facilities.

The Trustees were accompanied by staff of the Projects and Corporate Affairs units during the monitoring exercise.
