Education for Change Exposes Learners to Education, Mentorship and Entrepreneurship in Greater Accra
Education for Change (EFC) – Centre for Adventure and Societal Change has taken learners from the Nanumba North Municipality (Bimbilla) and Mion District on a five-day familiarisation, mentorship and entrepreneurial tour of the Greater Accra Region.
Education for Change (EFC) – Centre for Adventure and Societal Change has taken learners from the Nanumba North Municipality (Bimbilla) and Mion District on a five-day familiarisation, mentorship and entrepreneurial tour of the Greater Accra Region.
The tour, held from Monday, August 14 to Friday, August 18, 2026, formed part of EFC’s efforts to expose young people to practical learning opportunities, mentorship, entrepreneurship and career development.
During the tour, the learners visited a number of educational institutions, government agencies, industries, historical sites and businesses, where they interacted with professionals and gained firsthand knowledge of various fields.
At the Adomi Bridge and Bola Beach, the learners were introduced to coastal livelihoods and fishing activities. They also visited the Tema Fishing Harbour, where they assisted fishermen in pulling boats from the sea, giving them a practical understanding of the work and challenges involved in fishing.
The learners toured the GHACEM manufacturing plant in Tema, where they were exposed to industrial operations and manufacturing processes.
They also visited the University of Ghana, Legon, including the Department of Economics, Legon Hall, Balme Library and Commonwealth Hall. The visit offered them an opportunity to experience university life and encouraged them to aspire to higher education.
At the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) headquarters, the learners interacted with the Director-General, Major (Rtd.) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, a proud son of Nanung. The engagement exposed them to disaster management, leadership and public service.
The delegation also participated in the Ecobank Youth Summit at the bank’s headquarters in Accra, where they gained insights into entrepreneurship, financial literacy, innovation and opportunities available to young people.
Another significant engagement took place at the Ministry of Health, where the learners met Dr. Tahire Adam Hafiz, Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health and an illustrious son of the Nanung Kingdom.
Dr. Tahire Adam Hafiz created opportunities for EFC beneficiary learners who intend to pursue health-related programmes at the tertiary level, providing them with guidance and encouragement towards their educational aspirations.
The learners further visited the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), where they interacted with its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Rashid Tanko Computer, at his office and learned about technology and opportunities in the digital economy.
Other places visited included the Black Star Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where the learners gained a deeper appreciation of Ghana’s history and national development.
The learners were accommodated at Achimota Basic School through the support of the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Nantogma Attah, who also interacted with the group.
The five-day tour combined education, mentorship, entrepreneurship, recreation and practical exposure, giving the learners an opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real-life experiences.
Through the initiative, Education for Change continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering young people, broadening their horizons and creating opportunities that can shape their educational and career futures.
