2026 BECE school placement: Parents, wards stranded at resolution centres in Kumasi

Parents and their wards have been left stranded at school placement resolution centres in the Ashanti Region, following challenges with the 2026 BECE school placement exercise.
Scores of parents who thronged the centres in Kumasi as early as dawn were seen waiting in long queues, with many expressing frustration over difficulties in securing placement for their children.

Some of the affected parents, who spoke to Northwebonline.com Sofoba Kwame Afrifah, said their wards, despite obtaining good grades, were not placed in any school, while others were assigned to schools far from their preferred choices.
The situation has created anxiety and confusion at the resolution centres, with parents complaining about the long queues and slow pace of the resolution process.
The affected parents are therefore calling on the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to intervene urgently to resolve the challenges and ensure that their wards are placed in appropriate schools.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Assistant Director of Free SHS, Michael Owusu Baafi, who also spoke to Sofoba Kwame Afrifah, appealed to parents to remain calm and exercise patience as authorities work to address the challenges.
He further cautioned parents against paying money to intermediaries or middlemen in an attempt to secure placement or expedite any documentation process, stressing that parents should deal directly with the appropriate authorities.
