Tatale-Sanguli MP Calls on Government to Attract Investors to Develop Iron Ore Deposit

The Member of Parliament for Tatale-Sanguli, William Ayo Ntebe, has appealed to the government to urgently attract credible investors to develop the vast iron ore deposits in his constituency, which have remained largely unexploited for more than six decades.
According to the MP, he recently sought an update from the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in Parliament regarding the iron ore deposits in the area but was not satisfied with the response provided.
Hon. William questioned why such a potentially valuable national resource had been left undeveloped for so many years, explaining that the deposits were first discovered between 1960 and 1962 during the administration of Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He recalled that following the discovery, efforts were made to bring in Russian experts to explore and extract the iron ore. However, the project reportedly collapsed following the overthrow of Dr. Nkrumah's government in 1966.
Hon. William said the poor road network leading to the proposed mining site and the long distance from major commercial centres have made the project less attractive to investors.
In another setback, the MP revealed that a bushfire swept through the area last year and destroyed the contractors' camp.
When asked what he expected the government to do, Hon. William said the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources had informed Parliament that the government was searching for investors to develop the resource, a move he strongly supports.
He expressed hope that credible investors would soon be secured to exploit the iron ore deposits for the benefit of the country and the people of Tatale-Sanguli.
