Tamale: Northern Regional Police Command Investigates Deaths of Three Children Found in Car Boot at Koblimahigu

The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the deaths of three children whose bodies were discovered in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahigu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis.
The deceased have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, aged three, Saani Alsharaf, aged five, and Dauda Fadilan, aged seven.
According to the Police, the children allegedly left home for Islamic classes at about 8am on Sunday, October 4, 2026, but failed to return home. Efforts by community members to locate them were unsuccessful until about 5am on Monday, October 5, when their bodies were found in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.
The Police said officers who visited the scene found the vehicle stuck in mud on a road leading to the area. Preliminary inspection showed that the driver's door and the rear passenger door behind the driver's seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle belongs to a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service, who told the Police that the vehicle had been stuck in the mud for the past five days. He has since been arrested and is being taken to Accra to assist with investigations.
The Inspector-General of Police has also deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the Northern Regional Police Command. The vehicle has been secured for further forensic examination, while an autopsy is expected to provide additional information on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The Northern Regional Police Command has assured the public that all necessary investigative steps are being taken to establish what led to the deaths of the three children. It has urged the public to remain calm and said further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses. Assemblyman of the area, Seidu Fuseini have been speaking to the media.
Meanwhile, the deceased have been buried in accordance with Islamic rites following an autopsy conducted at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
