Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) advocating for quality education delivery have convened in Tamale for a dialogue and reflection session aimed at assessing progress, examining emerging challenges, and identifying key priorities for improving education outcomes across Ghana.

The session was convened by School for Life Ghana and the Northern Network for Education Development (NNED) under the Citizen-Led Action for Educational Accountability and Responsiveness (CLEAR) Project. It brought together key education stakeholders to reflect on challenges confronting the sector and develop strategies for collective advocacy and action.

Presentations by School for Life, Africa Education Watch, and the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) highlighted critical issues affecting the delivery of quality education. These included community-level education realities, curriculum implementation, education financing, infrastructure deficits, teacher deployment, and other barriers to effective learning.

Following extensive discussions and reflections, participants committed to strengthening collaboration and coordinating advocacy around three key priority areas.

The first is education financing, with CSOs calling for increased investment in school infrastructure and the provision of adequate teaching and learning materials, particularly at the foundational and primary school levels.

The second is curriculum implementation, with emphasis on improving teacher capacity and availability while promoting effective mother-tongue instruction from kindergarten to lower primary to enhance learning outcomes.

The third priority is safeguarding and positive discipline in schools, with participants advocating for safe, inclusive, supportive, and child-friendly learning environments for all children.

The forum underscored the importance of collective action, noting that when CSOs unite around common priorities and coordinate their advocacy efforts, they can build a stronger voice for the systemic reforms required to improve education delivery.

As a key outcome of the session, participants developed a joint advocacy plan to guide collective CSO action towards promoting quality, equitable, and inclusive education and ensuring that no child is left behind.

The CLEAR Project is supported by the Global Partnership for Education through Education Out Loud, an initiative that seeks to strengthen civil society and community voices in advancing meaningful education reforms and improving learning outcomes across Ghana.
