Rashid Pelpuo’s Reshuffle a Devastating Blow to Upper West – Wala Traditional Council

The Wala Traditional Council has expressed disappointment over President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to reassign Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo in the government’s recent ministerial reshuffle. President Mahama announced the reassignment on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, moving Dr Pelpuo from his position as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation to become Minister of State for Special Initiatives, with immediate effect.
Addressing celebrants at this year’s Dumba Festival at the Wa Naa’s Palace, the Secretary to the Overlord of the Wala Traditional Area, Naa Kadiri, described the reshuffle as a “devastating blow” to the people of the Upper West Region.
President Mahama announced the reassignment on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, moving Dr Pelpuo from his position as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation to become Minister of State for Special Initiatives, with immediate effect.
According to Naa Kadiri, the traditional authorities and the people of the Upper West Region feel disappointed and undermined by the decision, noting that Dr Pelpuo was the region’s most prominent representative occupying a ministerial position in the Mahama administration.
He expressed concern that the Upper West Region has remained loyal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the years and therefore did not anticipate such a decision from the government.
Naa Kadiri further stated that the traditional authorities believe the government has not done enough to address the development needs of the region, stressing that the reassignment of Dr Pelpuo has deepened the disappointment and concerns of the people.
The Wala Traditional Council, he said, hopes the government will give greater attention to the development of the Upper West Region and ensure that the concerns of its people are adequately addressed.
