North East Region: Residents appeal for rehabilitation of Wungu-Yaama and
Residents of the Yaama Electoral Area in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region are appealing to the government to urgently rehabilitate the Wungu-Yaama and Wungu-Mishio roads, which they say have become virtually unmotorable.
The two roads serve as major links between the farming communities and Wungu and Walewale. However, their deplorable condition, characterised by deep potholes, gullies and muddy sections, has made transportation extremely difficult, particularly during the rainy season.
Residents say the situation is having a serious impact on farming and access The Wungu-Yaama road covers about 20 kilometres, while the Wungu-Mishio road stretches approximately 17.2 kilometres.
They are therefore calling on the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly, the North East Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for the area and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently reshape and gravel the two roads to restore access, improve security and prevent the communities from becoming completely isolated.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the Walewale Constituency, Dr. Tia Mahama Abdul-Kabiru, has expressed concern over what he describes as the neglect of the West Mamprusi Municipality in terms of critical infrastructure and social amenities.
Dr. Abdul-Kabiru says the municipality continues to lag behind despite its strategic importance and is calling on the government to prioritise the area in its development agenda and ensure an equitable distribution of national resource.
